Kiteboarding and Parasailing in the Florida Keys

kite-surfing-588The Florida Keys offer quite a variety of watersports for you to take advantage of.  Two of these that we enjoy are parasailing and kiteboarding (kitesurfing).  One of them is a little more extreme than the other and more of a challenge, however either one can be quite enjoyable.

Parasailing can give you a bird’s eye view of the Keys and the turquoise waters surrounding the area. If you haven’t tried parasailing before, it is a blast and provides breathtaking views that you just can’t see from the ground.

Some of the common things you get to see from your vantage point is the Keys (Islands), the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, boats and jet skis and birds.  Some of the not so common things you could see would be the likes of stingrays, turtles, dolphins and other various creatures of the sea.

Kiteboarding is not usually something you can just go and do with little or no experience.  There is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it is an awesome experience.  Luckily there are plenty of instructors in the area to provide you with lessons to get you up and running.  Once you learn, you will be hooked for life.

scuba-diving-588One of the best attractions in the Florida Keys is scuba diving. Diver’s from all around the world can enjoy the offerings found under the waters in this great travel destination. These turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean boast a wide array of Caribbean fish and invertebrates as well as historical shipwrecks.

Marathon is the best location in the Florida Keys and offers the following diving attractions:

  • The Thunderbolt – This is a 188 foot ship that was intentionally sunk in March of 1986 in 115 feet of water to become a diving attraction.
  • Coffin’s Patch – This is a collection of 6 different reef patches all with their own unique personality.  This is also a great destination for snorkelers with the incredible elkhorn forests that are found in water less than 20 feet deep.
  • Delta Shoals – Another great spot for snorkelers and divers alike, featuring a conglomerate of coral canyons fanning outwards from the sandy shoal.
  • Adelaide Baker – One of the historic shipwrecks found in the Florida keys in water that is only 25 feet deep.
  • Sombrero Reef – This is a favorite spot of the Florida Keys’ divers bench marked by a lighted tower standing 140 feet tall.

So if you are ready to do some serious scuba diving, pack you bags and book your next vacation to the Florida Keys.
